Podiatry refers to treatment specifically for the feet.

A podiatrist has extensive training and will have undertaken a 3 or 4 year degree to enable them to treat a vast range of foot and lower leg problems.

Podiatry

Along with the usual chiropody treatments for corns and hard skin (please see our Chiropody page) our podiatrists offer other specialised services such as:

Biomechanics deals with problems arising from the way your joints align and your muscles
work. Pain caused by poor alignment can affect your feet but also your knees, hips and
lower back. Foot orthotics are often recommended to address these problems.

Foot orthotics are special shoe inserts which are used to correct foot problems that may be causing painful feet or referred problems elsewhere in the body. By changing the position and posture of your feet, we can help improve your body’s alignment and hopefully your symptoms. Foot orthotics are often used to treat flat feet (fallen arches) and they can be useful in treating many other conditions. At St Judes Clinic, we offer two types of orthotics depending on the level of the problem – ready-made and bespoke. The latter involves our podiatrist casting an impression of your feet which are then manufactured at a specialist laboratory. Following the fitting of your foot orthoses, a check-up after 6 weeks is carried out to ensure the new orthotic is doing its job, allowing for any minor adjustments to be made.

Podo-paediatrics deals with the diagnosis and treatment of lower leg and foot related
problems in children and is often developmental in nature and related to biomechanics.

Sports Injuries Our podiatrists often work with our physiotherapists, combining their expert knowledge of lower limb problems and treatments to diagnose and treat many lower limb sports injuries.

Nail surgery
Our podiatrists offer the convenience of nail surgery, by local anaesthetic, at
the St Judes Clinic, saving the need for a hospital visit.

How about a Medi-Pedi? A 45-minute medical pedicure by our podiatrist, Jack, will leave you with healthier, great-looking feet. Take the strain out of your feet and let our fully qualified podiatrists pamper your feet and put the spring back in your step. Further details can be seen on our Medi-Pedi page.

What conditions do your podiatrists treat?

  • Achilles’ tendonitis
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Shin splints

  • Morton’s neuroma (nerve entrapment between the toes)

Patient review: "I have had a lifetime suffering from poorly designed feet. Despite wearing good shoes and a referral to an NHS podiatrist, I was in pain and my feet had become increasingly unstable. I actually fell over once when my foot gave way - much to the embarrassment of my husband! Thankfully I decided to try the services at St Jude's and had an appointment with Paul Gough. I do not exaggerate when I say he did more for my feet, and hence my well being, in one hour than anyone has done in my entire life! In that hour, he diagnosed my problem and explained what was going on, frankly, honestly and without being patronising. He actually constructed, there and then, orthotics individually designed for each foot that would help to correct the angle of my feet when walking. The effect was truly amazing. My feet, even when barefoot, feel more stable and the pain has gone. All this for a cost that I consider to be very reasonable. I cannot recommend Paul highly enough and am so grateful I made that appointment with St Jude's. I will go on being a regular client."

Do you have BUPA cover? For patients who have BUPA healthcare insurance, Ganesh can offer an advanced biomechanical assessment using computerised gait analysis.  This will lead to further treatment from the St Judes team of therapists and the further option of custom-made foot orthoses (in-shoe devices) - where indicated.  In addition to biomechanical and gait assessment, BUPA will also allow nail surgery and follow up appointments, for the treatment of painful ingrowing toenails under local anaesthesia.  You will need to check your idividual policy details and contact BUPA before booking.
